Anna as icon and mirror
As one of the earliest Asian American Hollywood stars, Anna May Wong has a special place in the hearts of many Asian Americans. I feel somehow Anna is in our DNA. I feel a kinship in her tenacity in pursuing her career, her raw talent, and in her isolation as someone who was both admired and outside the defined social parameters of her time.
